Former UFC heavyweight turned podcast host Brendan Schaub found himself in an unusual predicament when heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou agreed to appear on his popular Food Truck Diaries series.
With barely 24 hours’ notice, Schaub scrambled to make the episode happen, but there was one major problem: no food truck was available on such short notice.
Rather than cancel the interview, Schaub improvised in the most unconventional way possible. He personally picked up chicken sandwiches and served them directly from the trunk of his car, creating what may be the most humble meal service ever provided to a reigning heavyweight champion.
“We booked him really short notice so we couldn’t get him a food truck, so I went and picked up chicken sandwiches. We got them out of the trunk of my car,” Schaub explained during the episode, showcasing his commitment to delivering content despite the logistical challenges.
The impromptu trunk-side dining experience took place next to Schaub’s vehicle, where he served the UFC champion while discussing his recent success and future prospects. Despite the unconventional setup, Ngannou appeared genuinely appreciative of both the food and the hospitality.
“It looks good. It’s tasty,” Ngannou remarked as he sampled the chicken sandwich, proving that even world champions can appreciate a simple meal served with genuine enthusiasm.
“This is my ride, and I think you’re going to be able to afford about 30 of these after your next deal,” Schaub joked with Ngannou, referencing the champion’s anticipated contract negotiations while maintaining the lighthearted atmosphere.
The makeshift meal service also revealed personal details about the heavyweight champion, including his upbringing. When asked about his childhood, Ngannou shared that he “was a big baby” and comes from a family of five children, including “three brothers and one sister.”
What started as a potential disaster turned into one of the most memorable episodes of “Food Truck Diaries,” proving that sometimes the best content comes from embracing the unexpected.
