(Video) When UFC champ Matt Serra pulled a Mike Tyson and bit someone’s ear off

Matt Serra began his professional MMA career in 1999, competing in various promotions before joining the UFC in 2001. He showcased his exceptional skills in the welterweight division, earning a reputation for his powerful striking and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise.

In 2007, Serra achieved one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. As a heavy underdog, he faced Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title at UFC 69. Against all odds, Serra delivered a stunning knockout in the first round, becoming the UFC Welterweight Champion.

Apart from his successful MMA career, Serra has made significant contributions as a coach and mentor. He served as a coach on the sixth season of TUF. Serra is known for his charismatic personality and sense of humor. He has become a fan favorite for his candid and entertaining podcast, providing insights into the world of MMA with his unique perspective.

Serra also corners and coaches current UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. He does so along with Ray Longo.

Legendary MMA coach Ray Longo recently described how Matt Serra had a Mike Tyson like moment and bit a man’s ear clean off.

In a recent appearance on Room Service Diaries, Ray Longo shared a little-known story about the former UFC champion Matt Serra. He said that he got to know Serra’s character when he was facing legal proceedings for biting a man’s ear. After numerous discussions with Serra, Longo realized that Serra was not afraid to get hurt. To top that off, Serra could also dish out a lot of damage.

“You gotta remember like not many people know this story so when I met Serra […] he’s in court because he had bitten a guy’s ear off in a fight. [..] As a coach, I’m like – I’ve got a fighter. This is the sh*t I’m looking for.”. Longo added,

“He [Serra] was a really likable guy. And he was that guy in school, who was the badass. But he was the badass fighting the bullies. He wasn’t a bully. He would never do that.”.

This incident took place before the UFC Hall of Famer had trained in jiujitsu. Serra previously revealed on the Real Quick With Mike Swick Podcast exactly what happened that day. He said that a couple of guys showed up at the pizzeria where he was working.

Serra was soon surrounded by them. Then one of the guys had him in a headlock. At that stage, Serra bit his ear off. And then the scrap broke up. He felt that if had been trained in martial arts the bite would have never happened.

Serra said, “I didn’t know Jiujitsu. They surrounded me. A guy had me in a headlock, cheek to cheek. So I ended up biting his ear, took it off.”.

This incident, however, affected Serra since he was not allowed to enlist with The United States Marine Corps.
