(Video) When Brendan Schaub insisted on Asking Mike Chandler why he didn’t have biological kids

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler recently opened up about his family’s decision to adopt during an appearance on a Schaub’s food truck diaries. The conversation took an unexpected turn when the host pressed Chandler on why he and his wife Brie chose adoption over having biological children.

Chandler explained that the idea of adoption came from his wife early in their relationship. While spending time at a dog park in San Diego, Brie expressed her desire to become a mother through adoption. Though initially surprised, Chandler quickly embraced the idea, saying, “I’ll do anything to marry you. I’m completely on board with that.”

The UFC star revealed that Brie’s passion for adoption stemmed from her teenage experiences participating in intercity missions in Columbia, Missouri, and similar work in Jamaica. These experiences instilled in her a deep desire to provide a loving home for children in need.

After marrying in 2014, the couple welcomed their first adoptive son, Hap, in 2017, followed by their second son, Ace, in 2022. Chandler emphasized the joy and fulfillment that adoption has brought to their lives.

When questioned about the challenges of adoption, Chandler acknowledged that it can be a complex process, varying by state. He also addressed concerns about transracial adoption, recognizing the importance of discussing race and heritage as their children grow older.

“Obviously, part of it, too, is if I would have done that interview and my sons were 14 and 11, it’s a little bit different,” Chandler explained. “I’ve got a 2-year-old, and I’ve got a 7-year-old. So maybe that question being answered to me five years from now or… you know, my son Hap now is 7, so, we’re getting toward that direction.”

Despite occasional controversies, many in the MMA community have praised Chandler for his decision to adopt. The star remains focused on providing the best possible life for his sons and continues to navigate the joys and challenges of parenthood with love and dedication.

Throughout the interview, Chandler maintained a respectful and thoughtful demeanor, even when faced with personal questions about his family’s choices.
