(Video) UFC vet Brendan Schaub says he would just take Alex Pereira down

Brendan Schaub never fails to make the MMA community laugh. Perhaps he should’ve taken the same approach in his comedy career.

In a recent statement, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub has boldly claimed that he would have no trouble taking down the current UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, in a hypothetical matchup. This assertion has generated significant buzz among MMA fans and pundits alike considering Schaub was never considered a top prospect in the heavyweight division.

Schaub did not hold back when discussing the potential clash. “That’s scary. It’s not. All right, take him down. Are you out of your mind?” he exclaimed, seemingly confident in his ability to neutralize Pereira’s striking prowess with his grappling skills.

The former fighter further emphasized his confidence, stating, “Here’s the thing though. All right, I can wrestle now with a black belt.” This statement suggests that Schaub has been honing his ground game, potentially making him a more formidable opponent for the Brazilian champion.

Interestingly both Pereira and Schaub have fans side eyeing their respective BJJ black belts. Schaub reportedly ordered his black belt on the phone long after his MMA career was over and he wasn’t training any more. Pereira received his black belt following a KO win that featured no grappling.

Pereira, who recently dethroned long-reigning middleweight king Israel Adesanya, is widely regarded as one of the most devastating strikers in the UFC today. However, Schaub appears undeterred by Pereira’s renowned striking abilities, believing that he can simply take the action to the mat and negate the champion’s strengths.

While Schaub’s claims may raise eyebrows among some MMA enthusiasts, it is important to note that the former star has not competed in the UFC since 2014.

Nonetheless, Schaub’s bold proclamations have certainly stirred up the MMA community.
