(Video) Trans boxer Patricio Manuel adds another win to record, now 2-0 after four-year hiatus

Patricio Manuel is  the trailblazing trans boxer. He marked his return to the ring in style, recording a dominant win against Hien Hyunh on Saturday at The Pyramid at Long Beach State University.

Manuel’s first boxing bout since his historic debut in December 2018 was eagerly anticipated, with many questioning how much rust would be present after a four-year hiatus.

Patricio Manuel competes against men by his own choice in a move that’s certainly admirable. World Boxing association proposed the creation of an alternative division for trans participants after it was concluded that it was unfair for trans individuals to participate in either male or female division.

The WBA is keeping an eye out and hasn’t made any rash final judgements.

However, any doubts were quickly dispelled as Manuel set the tone with a first-round knockdown, which led to a sweeping right hook to Hyunh’s jaw that sent him to the canvas in just 90 seconds.

Manuel’s superior height, weight, and reach were evident, as he used them to his advantage and cut the ring off, leaving Hyunh with few options to mount a sustained attack.

Manuel’s improved jab and defense-to-offense strategy allowed him to regain control in the later rounds and ultimately record a technical decision victory, with all three judges scoring the bout in his favor. Despite the bout ending prematurely due to an accidental head butt and subsequent cut above Hyunh’s eye, the partisan crowd at Long Beach showed their unwavering support for Manuel.

The long layoff between bouts allowed Manuel to recover from injuries and build new weapons, resulting in a crisp and polished performance.

After the win, he expressed his gratitude to his supporters, friends, family, and team, saying, “I am not a self-made man. I am the sum of everyone. I am so loved and supported that I feel unbeatable.”

Patricio Manuel’s return to the ring was a resounding success, proving that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. His story serves as an inspiration to many, showing that with hard work, perseverance, and unwavering determination, anything is possible. As he continues to break down barriers and shatter stereotypes, he is sure to inspire many more to follow in his footsteps.
