Anyone can be a hero – but this MMA student from Washington took the saying really seriously.
Marquise Brown was stopping by a pharmacy on his way to training when he saw a heated argument between the store’s manager and a customer. The argument broke off for a while when the customer left the pharmacy.
But instead of just letting it go, the man returned a few moments later and became increasingly aggressive towards the manager.
In the middle of the confrontation, the customer brandished an object that appeared to Brown to be a weapon.
“When I saw the black object, I thought I might need to get involved,” Brown explained when interviewed by Bloody Elbow. Brown then took the man down and pinned him down until the police arrived.
The Police later found that there was no weapon on the scene, they gave the man a warning and barred him from entering the store.
Brown later added that this incident can be used to spread awareness on how to protect ourselves. “We train every single day for stuff like this. I don’t really feel like a hero. I just hope it spreads awareness of learning how to protect yourself” he said.
While Brown’s act was regarded as a heroic one, some may think otherwise as the 24-years old Summer Tapasa-Sataraka was fired after she tackled a man trying to steal goods from a BestBuy store where she worked.

When UFC President Dana White heard about the unfortunate incident, he took to Instagram to praise Tapasa-Sataraka, give her a ticket to a UFC event, and a job in the UFC.
“This is Summer Tapasa-Sataraka. She stopped this punk from getting away with stealing from BestBuy in Hawaii. She got fired for this. Flying her in this weekend and giving her tickets to the McGregor vs Cowboy fight. I WANT HER TO WORK FOR ME! Get ready for the best weekend of your life Summer” White wrote.
White also expressed his interest in giving the young woman a job, and promised to turn her into a ‘rockstar’.
