In an unusual incident that raised eyebrows at the Liger Fighting Championships (LFC 8), competitors and officials found themselves dealing with an unexpected technical difficulty as the cage repeatedly shifted during the event.
The championship, held at the Semnan Sports Hall in Semnan, Iran on April 18, 2025, faced a unique challenge when the competition cage began to move during matches, creating concerns about athlete safety and competition integrity.
Spectators noticed the cage shifting several inches during intense moments of the bouts, particularly when competitors made contact with the structure’s sides. The unexpected movement appeared to catch both athletes and referees off guard.
Technical staff attempted to stabilize the cage, but the issue persisted. Despite the challenge, organizers decided to continue with the event after determining that the movement, while distracting, didn’t pose an immediate safety hazard.
The LFC, a growing mixed martial arts organization in Iran, has been gaining popularity in the region. This technical glitch comes at a time when the championship is working to establish itself as a professional-grade competition.
Of course, this isn’t the worst cage malfunction to ever happen – at least the cage remained somewhat secured. One MMA star wasn’t so lucky when the cage ended up basically creating a large lasceration on his scalp ultimately causing stoppage in the past.
Some athletes adapted to the unusual circumstances, with veteran competitors reportedly adjusting their strategies to account for the unpredictable cage movement. One competitor was seen actually using the cage flexibility to his advantage during a grappling exchange.
Event organizers have promised a full review of the equipment and setup procedures before their next scheduled championship.
This has become something of a talking point among martial arts enthusiasts, with video clips of the moving cage circulating widely on social media platforms.
