Former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping addressed a fan question about a hypothetical physical confrontation between himself and UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
When asked by a fan named Darren Hill who would prevail, Bisping didn’t hold back.
“Come on, bro. Are you serious, Darren Hill?” Bisping responded. “Listen, Joe‘s great. You know, very, very good guy. But he would not beat me in a confrontation. And that is just a fact. And I don’t think I’m saying anything controversial there.”
The British former champion, who won the UFC middleweight title in 2016 by defeating Luke Rockhold, elaborated on his stance by drawing a clear line between fighters and commentators.
“Those who can’t teach and those who can’t teach, talk about it,” Bisping explained. “Joe’s not a combatant. Joe’s a very successful comedian, very successful commentator. Joe’s a very good person. Joe’s a very popular, very extremely famous and very wealthy person. But he’s not a combatant, you know.”
While Rogan has never fought professionally in MMA, he holds black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Taekwondo. He’s also been a core part of the UFC commentary team since 1997.
Bisping, by contrast, fought professionally for 13 years, finishing with a 30-9 record before retiring in 2018 due to ongoing eye issues.
Despite his firm opinion, Bisping remained respectful of Rogan‘s contributions to the sport.
“So to answer your question, mate, with the greatest of respect, I don’t think I’m saying anything sensationalized there,” Bisping concluded.
The two have shared the broadcast desk numerous times since Bisping joined the UFC commentary team, and their professional rapport appears unaffected by this imagined matchup.
