Mentalist Oz Pearlman appeared to read Joe Rogan’s mind by correctly guessing his ATM PIN code during a recent podcast episode.
The extraordinary exchange began innocently enough when Pearlman asked Rogan about his marriage and whether his wife knew personal information like his social security number. When Pearlman inquired if Rogan’s wife knew his ATM PIN, Rogan confirmed she didn’t.
The mentalist then requested that Rogan think of a four-digit code, explicitly instructing him not to reveal his actual PIN unless he wanted to. “Make up a fake four-digit number off the top of your head, what feels to you utterly spontaneous,” Pearlman directed.
After some initial psychological analysis where Pearlman claimed that men typically “lie bigger” when making up numbers, he began to narrow down the possibilities. Pearlman first wrote down “2020” as a misdirection before starting his real work.
“I got a hit, which means it’s a zero or one. I think the first number of your code’s a one, isn’t it?” Pearlman asked about Rogan’s real PIN, not the made-up one. Rogan, understandably reluctant to confirm anything about his actual banking information on air, asked why he would reveal that information.
Pearlman then requested to show his guess only to Rogan, who confirmed the first digit was correct. Through careful observation of Rogan’s reactions and body language, Pearlman continued his analysis.
“You use two numbers in repeats,” Pearlman noted, further demonstrating his technique by watching Rogan’s subtle responses. “I know there’s not a two or a two in it,” he added, with Rogan seemingly confirming through his reactions.
After asking if the last number was the biggest and receiving confirmation, Pearlman wrote down his final guess and showed it only to Rogan, ensuring cameras couldn’t capture the sensitive information.
