Khamzat Chimaev was recently spotted in New York. He may have been there to witness PFL finals. A number of other MMA aces was there including Eddie Alvarez, Aljamain Sterling, Henry Cejudo and more.
While there, Chimaev dropped by an infamous gym – Renzo Gracie’s infamous blue basement. While the blue basement no longer houses the most notorious grappling team on the planet, it’s still a sight to behold.
He was there to attend class along with another UFC ace – Neil MAgny. Magny is preparing to duke it out with Gilbert Burns in Jan 2023 at UFC 283.
Magny (27-9) is the most successful welterweight in UFC history, with 20 victories. He surpassed Georges St-Pierre’s 19 win record recently. Magny is currently ranked number 12 in the division – Burns is at number 5. Meanwhile Chimaev is still pondering which division he’ll continue his journey in and weighing his options between a quick title shot at middleweight and a lengthy wait to face the winner of Edwards vs Usman in March.
He was in the conversation to face Covington but nothing has been announced and Covington is known for picking his opponents.
Chimaev got promoted to BJJ purple belt in the fall out from his bout against BJJ ace Gilbert Burns. Chimaev trains under chekmat’s Alan Finfou Nascimento.
Finfou was quoted saying:
“I’m making Khamzat expose all the fake black belts in Brazilian jiu jitsu that are in the MMA scenario. Why? Because nowadays, people just get belts like they go to McDonalds.”
” They don’t do the job. He just got this purple belt. How many black belts in his career has he finished? So that shows, that’s about it. I’m using him to expose many guys.”
