It’s not every day that spectators get to prevent the most heinous crimes that can happen. Recently a video emerged showcasing how a quick thinking from a bjj practitioner helped prevent a child kidnapping at an outdoor café.
The video starts off with the kid seated along with two females at a table – presumably one being the mother. They’re quickly approached by a man from the back. The man hopped over the café fence and beelined for the child.
The female sitting across the table from the child quickly starts grabbing at the child who doesn’t look older than 4.
At this point a passerby intervenes and grabs the man quickly. The man in question quickly takes the back of the assailant while standing. A type of collar control is utilized then to bring the gentleman down and away from the child. While the alleged kidnapper is being dragged away he still won’t let go of the child. Other spectators get involved.
Once the jiu jitsu practitioner finally drags the assailant to the floor, he’s able to take his back and insert both hooks in order to control him and wait for law enforcement officers.
The bjj loving individual assists the police by controlling the suspect while they cuff him. And is subsequently helped up by an officer. The whole incident was captured on the CCTV from the cafe.
Dishal Sooku, owner of Bella Napoli Italian Kitchen, in Johannesburg, South Africa, used his martial arts background to choke out an alleged kidnapper.
“I don’t consider myself a hero, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Mr Sooku told news24.
“The only thing that was going through my mind was ‘I need to save this little girl’.
“All I could think about was protecting her and saving her.”
“It’s a technique that would allow you to escape in a situation, and let the child be free.”
“I just wish her all the best. I’m glad I could have done what I did,” he added.
A witness told the Roodeport Record the man was “walking along the street banging on cars” prior to leaping over the restaurant railings.
Naseem Slamang, 24, was charged with assault to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted kidnapping and common assault.
