Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has asserted that MMA fighters generally hit harder than boxers. In a revealing interview with Piers Morgan, Ngannou discussed the differences between striking power in MMA and boxing.
“I would say MMA [fighters hit harder],” Ngannou stated. “It depends on the punch, but remember MMA fights use 4-ounce gloves. Sometimes you get hit not by the gloves but by the knuckles, so the sensation is different. Even if the punch is not very hard, the sensation is very different because it’s like bone to bone.”
Ngannou, known for his devastating punching power, recently made his professional boxing debut against Tyson Fury. Despite losing a controversial decision, Ngannou’s performance impressed many observers, including Morgan, who believed the MMA star deserved the victory.
The Cameroonian star also addressed his recent loss to Anthony Joshua, attributing it to a “bad day in the office” and various issues leading up to the fight. Ngannou expressed his eagerness to return to MMA, with a bout scheduled against Ron Ferreira in Saudi Arabia on October 19th.
Throughout the interview, Ngannou emphasized the importance of perseverance and self-belief, drawing from his own extraordinary journey from poverty in Cameroon to becoming a world champion fighter. He encouraged young men to set goals and pursue their dreams, regardless of naysayers.
“Focus on what you’re doing or whatever is your dream,” Ngannou advised. “Allow yourself to fail. It’s my right to be wrong. If I decide I’m doing this, I do it, then I find that I was wrong, it’s my right. I start over or I do something else, but at least I have that experience.”
As Ngannou prepares for his MMA return, his insights into the fighting world and life philosophy continue to inspire fans and aspiring athletes alike.
