In a startling revelation, former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has disclosed what veteran MMA referee John McCarthy allegedly told him about Conor McGregor’s latest injury setback.
According to Bisping, McCarthy informed him that the titanium shin bone in McGregor’s leg, which he had previously broken in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier, has failed.
Bisping shared this information during a recent video on his channel, stating, “He (McCarthy) told me in no uncertain terms, this fight is not happening. He (McGregor) is injured, he has hurt himself. His leg, the leg that he broke, that snapped against Dustin Poirier. The titanium shin bone has failed.”
McGregor was initially scheduled to face Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303, but the bout has been scrapped due to the Irishman’s injury. The UFC 303 pay-per-view will now be headlined by a light heavyweight title clash between reigning champion Alex Pereira and former champion Jiri Prochazka.
During a recent media interaction, UFC CEO Dana White stated that the promotion will consider rescheduling the McGregor vs. Chandler fight only after McGregor has properly healed. According to veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the UFC is trying to reschedule the bout for August or September. Helwani also insists the injury is not severe despite this claim made by Bisping.
However, former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has expressed uncertainty about McGregor’s future. Cormier doubts whether the extremely wealthy Irishman, who leads an extravagant lifestyle, will be willing to put a pause on his luxurious adventures and commit himself to the grueling training required to compete at a high level in the UFC.
During a recent episode of Daniel Cormier TV, he said, ” He lives a life that is so extravagant, that is so fun, that is so fueled with adventure and other things, I don’t know if people could blame him if he wants to walk away from this.”
