What began as a routine weigh-in ceremony for BKFC FN: Hollywood quickly turned chaotic when co-main event star Steve Herelius grabbed the official scale and attempted to use it as a weapon against his opponent Leonardo Perdomo.
The incident, which occurred Wednesday in Hollywood, FL, unfolded after both bare-knuckle boxers had successfully completed their weigh-ins ahead of Thursday’s event. As Perdomo and Herelius stood for the customary face-off photos, the two exchanged heated words.
Tensions dramatically escalated when Herelius flicked his hand toward Perdomo’s nose, prompting “Zambo” Perdomo to respond with a punch and shove. Security personnel quickly intervened to separate the boxers, and it appeared the situation was under control.
However, in a turn of events, Herelius broke free and grabbed the weigh-in scale, attempting to approach Perdomo with the improvised weapon. Security staff scrambled to restrain Herelius while BKFC President David Feldman personally stepped in to remove the scale from the enraged boxer’s grasp.
“Stay back. Stay back for a minute, dude,” security personnel can be heard shouting in video footage of the altercation, as they worked to regain control of the situation.
Despite the chaotic weigh-in, the five-round co-main event between Herelius and Perdomo is still scheduled to proceed on Thursday’s card, which features Luis Palomino facing Howard Davis in the main event.
The confrontation certainly raised the stakes for tomorrow’s bout, though perhaps not in the professional manner BKFC officials had hoped for. Fans can watch the official contest, which will hopefully feature more traditional combat sports equipment, on TrillerTV.
