Recently, UFC contender Valter Walker opened up about the unconventional beginning of his marriage and how an unexpected pregnancy changed the course of his life in Russia. He talked about it in a recent episode of Show Me The Money podcast.
Walker was living a dramatically different lifestyle when he first arrived in Russia, admitting to juggling multiple romantic relationships simultaneously. “When I come to Russia, I have, like, bro, maybe, I don’t know, six girlfriends,” Walker revealed.
Among these relationships was a connection with a woman who would eventually become his wife – though their path to marriage was far from traditional. The turning point came with surprising news that would force both of them to reassess their futures.
“And she, one of my girlfriends, you know? And she was, like, pregnant. And I’m, like, what the f**k? I don’t have money, bro. This woman pregnant, bro. What the f**k?” Walker recounted, describing his initial surprise and financial concerns about the unexpected development.
His girlfriend, a highly educated nuclear engineer and physicist, approached the situation with remarkable maturity and independence. Rather than pressuring Walker, she gave him an ultimatum.
“And she say for me, like, if you want to run, run. I will keep the baby. Because she have good condition, you know? She, like, nuclear engineer, physics. Nice. She’s, like, smart.”
The response revealed Walker’s sense of responsibility and moral compass, even in the face of uncertainty. “And I say, no, it’s, like, no, it’s no man, you know? Like, if I make this baby, I need to take care, you know?”
What followed was an unusual but honest negotiation about their future together. Walker proposed a practical arrangement that would benefit both parties, though it lacked the romantic foundation typically expected in relationships.
“And I say for her, look, if you help me, I will help you. Like, and she say, how? I say for she, look, help me make Russian documents for me live in Russia. And I will build.”
His future wife’s response highlighted her desire for genuine affection rather than a purely transactional relationship. “And she say, but you don’t love me. You are not only documents.”
Walker’s reply demonstrated his commitment to making their unconventional arrangement work, even if it meant building love from scratch. “I say, listen, I will learn to love you. You will learn to love me.”
Now married to a woman seven years his senior, Walker’s story illustrates how life’s unexpected turns can lead to meaningful relationships built on mutual respect, responsibility, and the willingness to grow together. Their marriage, which began as a practical partnership, represents a unique journey from convenience to commitment in the world of professional athletics.
The couple’s story serves as a reminder that lasting relationships can emerge from the most unlikely circumstances, provided both partners are willing to invest in building something meaningful together.
