UFC’s Jorge Masvidal teases he’s running for Political office

Former UFC star Jorge Masvidal is contemplating a potential run for Florida State Senate, according to his recent social media statement.

Masvidal shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s “thinking seriously and praying about” entering the political arena, following discussions of a possible Special Election for the Florida State Senate.

The potential opening comes as Florida State Senator Bryan Avila is expected to fill the Miami-Dade County Commission seat. The seat is becoming vacant due to Kevin Cabrera‘s appointment by President Trump as Ambassador to Panama.

“I am gratified by the many, many people who have urged me to run in this Special Election, if it happens,”

Masvidal wrote on his social media platform.

The Miami native expressed particular interest in addressing child sex trafficking issues in Miami-Dade County.

“I believe I could make a real difference in the State Senate—particularly in fighting the child sex trafficking which we all know is happening in Miami-Dade County,”

he stated.

Masvidal, who retired from professional competition in 2023, has shown increasing interest in political matters. His potential entry into politics has garnered significant attention, with his announcement receiving over 145,000 views on the social media platform.

“I am honored by the many citizens who are urging me to run if this opportunity presents itself,”

Masvidal added, leaving the door open for a possible political career.

The Special Election has not yet been officially announced, and Masvidal has not made a final decision regarding his candidacy.
