UFC veteran Jake Shields charged with battery following UFC PI incident with Mike Jackson

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields recently found himself entangled in legal troubles. The incident in question revolves around an alleged assault on Mike Jackson at the UFC Performance Institute back in December.

As reported by MMA Fighting, Shields is now facing a charge of misdemeanor battery. On August 9, a summons was sent to the former UFC competitor.

The legal proceedings took a decisive turn when Shields failed to make an appearance at the arraignment scheduled for September 21. This subsequently led to a bench warrant being issued for his arrest on the same day.

Mike Jackson did not mince words when discussing the incident and his impending return to the cage against UFC Hall of Famer Pat Miletich.

Jackson stated candidly in an interview with MMA Fighting. “He’s a piece of sh*t. Jake Shields, I know somebody is going to tell you about this. You better be on your best behavior, you f*cking coward. Because the man is looking [for you].”

“He has a warrant out for his arrest because he’s a coward piece of sh*t. So he’s on the run essentially. He’s ducking and dodging the cops because they want to get him. The [district attorney] wants to get his ass real good. So that’s going to happen.”

The animosity between Jackson and Shields sprouted from an online altercation over race-related political matters. In December 2022, both individuals were present at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.

Shields purportedly initiated an unprovoked attack on Jackson. He even took to X to share a video of the incident. The video showed him on top of Jackson, delivering punches while surrounded by a group of onlookers.

Jackson and Shields first butted heads earlier this year in the fall out from the Dean Barry DQ win when Jackson referenced ‘White fragility’.

Jackson seemed open to the possibility:

Nothing came of it then – but then yesterday the news of their volatile conflict made it online with a video attached.

Shields was delighted overpowering Jackson and referred to him as a racist.

Jackson deactivated his twitter in the fall out from viral stunt. Shields proceeded to call him out further.

UFC’s Chase Hopper and Randy Costa had some fun in the comment section connecting the incident to the recent judging failure at UFC 282.

Shields also pointed out a funny hypocrisy in Jackson’s behavior.
