UFC veteran Geane Herrera dead at 33

Former UFC and BKFC contender Geane Herrera tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident. The incident occurred late Saturday night on the Gandy Bridge in Tampa, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 33-year-old Tampa native was speeding towards Hillsborough County on the Gandy Bridge. He ended up colliding with the back of a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The initial collision threw Herrera into a concrete barrier, after which he was propelled back onto the road. It resulted in a fall of several hundred feet before his motorcycle caught fire. Fortunately, the driver of the Jeep was unharmed in the incident.

In response to this heartbreaking event, the Herrera family has initiated a fundraiser to support them during this challenging time. MMA journalist Adam Martin first reported the news of Herrera’s passing on X. He expressed his condolences and sharing the fundraiser link with the following message:

Geane Herrera is an American fighter of Colombian descent. He was born in California and began his professional mixed martial arts career at the age of 20. Herrera made his debut in March 2011 and remained undefeated with an 8-0 record in regional organizations across the Southeastern United States before signing with the UFC in 2014.

Herrera’s UFC career began at UFC Fight Night 73, where he faced Ray Borg and lost via unanimous decision. He later replaced Justin Scoggins to compete against Joby Sanchez at TUF 22 Finale. Herrera ended up earning a TKO victory in the second round.

Herrera also competed against Ali Bagautinov at UFC Fight Night 89, losing by unanimous decision. His last octagon appearance was against Ben Nguyen at UFC Fight Night 101, where he again lost by unanimous decision. Following this defeat, Herrera was released from the UFC.

After his UFC tenure, Herrera competed in the BKFC. He secured a victory over Abdiel Velazquez at BKFC 19 but later lost to Reggie Barnett Jr. at BKFC 32.
