UFC Vegas 66 Highlights: Said Nurmagomedov pulls off a submission comeback

Said Nurmagomedov is 30 years old. He had an MMA record consisting of 16 wins and 2 losses heading into tonight.

He has ties to the controversial Chechen team Akhmat that has recently been all over the news.

Nurmagomedov made it into the octagon at UFC Vegas 66 on a three win spree. He was matched with Saidyokub Kakhramonov.

Said Nurmagomedov last lost to Raoni Barcelos back in 2019. Nurmagomedov appears content to grind his way to the top of the bantamweight division.

Kakhramonov was 10-2 in MMA heading into tonight. He’s been with the UFC for a little over a year. Kakhramonov’s record reveals a loss to Umar Nurmagomedov and Felipe Vargas.

Nurmagomedov and Kakhramonov were featured on the prelims of UFC Vegas 66.

Kakhramonov came out swinging, wanting to close the distance and overwhelm Nurmagomedov.

The two spent a considerable amount of time tied up along the fence. Kakhramonov appeared to be looking for a way to get a takedown.

Nurmagomedov looked to lock up a guillotine in defense, and pulled guard, leaving Kakhramonov struggling for his breath. This time he managed to hammer his way out of the predicament and end up in Said’s guard.

He got to passing and ended up in half guard prior to a scramble that would wind up with Nurmagomedov recovering the guard.

Kakhramonov’s pressure was keeping Nurmagomedov off his game.
Kakhramonov was pleased with his performance in round one so he kept the plan the same. Early in round two Kakhramonov took down Nurmagomedov and was even on his back but he managed to get back on his feet.

Kakhramonov really outpaced Nurmagomedov who seemed outdone in the wrestling department.

The chain wrestling was a big source of frustration for Nurmagomedov who seemingly had no response – that is until he locked up another guillotine.

This time, Kakhramonov was forced to tap rather quickly with the effects apparent.
