UFC Vegas 59: Vicente Luque faceplants after Geoff Neal piles on strikes

Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal clashed in the co main event of UFC Vegas 59.

Luque was coming off of a loss to Belal Muhammed while Neal was seeking an opportunity to prove himself after a split decision victory over Ponzinibbio.

Neal definitely owned the show and put on one of the greatest performances of his career.

Luque tried to pressure Neal from the get go. Despite his desire to be the assailant, Neal gave back as good as he got and then some. He backed up Luque and got back at him for those early assaults.

Neal had Luque hurt at one point during round one and pushed him back. Luque looked unsteady and was lacking that decisiveness he started with.

In round two, Neal tried to carry over the momentum.  Luque had somewhat recovered and landed a good number on Neal. In the end of round 3, it appeared Neal had had a slight advantage but it just as well might be that Luque was even or up on the judges scorecards.

In round three came the finish. Neal landed a big left and followed it with another. It was apparent he had hurt Luque. Yet another left sent Luque reeling for the cage at which point Neal crowded him and landed 6 straight uppercuts. It was clear that the bout was ready to be called but Keith Peterson seemed hesitant until Luque front collapsed landing on the front of his body.

Official Result: Geoff Neal def. Vicente Luque by knockout (punches), Round 3, 2:01
