Nzechukwu suffered back to back losses coming into UFC Vegas 58. The light heavyweight was looking to get one back in the winning column against Karl Robertson.
Robertson was on a losing streak as well, having los the last three in the middleweight division. This was perceived as a must win situation for either fighter.
Round one began with Robertson trying to wrestle Nzechukwu down. Nzechukwu staved off his assaults and defended the entire round. Nzechukwu repeatedly tried to get a neck crank going so much so that MMA twitter joked that Nzechukwu was coming off like Khabib against Robertson.
In round two Robertson regrouped, tried to attack from the standing position but the strategy didn’t last long. Nzechukwu took Robertson down and it was a replay of round one in many ways.
In Round three Robertson tried to get back into the contest. He initially had success but was then taken down and mounted. Robertson fought to scramble but Nzechukwu remained on top.
Nzechukwu landed massive elbows from top position and Herb Dean called the contest off marking a victory for Nzechukwu via R3 2:19 TKO.
