UFC Targeting Khamzat Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns

After his fight against Li Jinglian at UFC 267, Kamzat Chimaev has been the center of attention. A lot of people speculate which UFC welterweight fighter would be the next to fight Chimaev. Meanwhile the UFC has been in talks to make Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns happen in January.

According to their sources, ‘Frontkick Online’ recently posted on their Twitter account that the UFC has been talking about a fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns. The fight isn’t confirmed yet but is most likely to happen. They said the fight will be scheduled for January next year.

“Talks are in fact ongoing for Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gilbert Burns, according to sources. Not done, but likely to get booked. The plan seems to be January rather than December but again, nothing is signed or set in stone as of now. Developing …”

This news is strengthened by Chisanga Malata, a journalist from The Sun, who is very sure that the fight will actually happen. Malata says this will be a huge fight and the winner will have a title shot against the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

“FIGHT NEWS. A welterweight showdown between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns is in the works. Huge, huge fight for both men and one that could have serious implications for Kamaru Usman’s next title defence.” Malata wrote on Twitter.

Previously, Neil Magny expressed his desire to fight Chimaev but looks like it won’t happen for now. Gilbert Burns is currently number two in UFC welterweight rankings. He  had  title shot against Usman back in February but lost via third-round TKO. With a score of 20-4, Gilbert Burns surely will give a good fight against the rising star Khamzat Chimaev.
