UFC on ESPN 35: Grant Dawson submits John Danaher brown belt, Jared Gordon

Grant Dawson gave up a college scholarship to pursue an MMA career. Dawson was eager to face Jared Gordon. Gordon is a John Danaher brown belt – and he had never been submitted prior to tonight.

Heading into round 3, Gordon was trailing. He tried his best while Dawson jogged out of the danger zone. Daweson’s determination to land a low single leg paid off.

He spun to take Gordon’s back off of that takedown and got Gordon in a body triangle again. His forearm appeared to be under the chin from the get go. His finishing tactic was a bit different. According to his own account it was a specific variation.

Dawson landed a choke variation titled ‘cranky 5 year old’ due to the way that the submission is applied.

Dawson had quite the speech after the submission. In an attempt to thwart UFC production he thanked his team at the start of the interview.

“The last time I lost a fight, Barack Obama was president,” Daweson delivered adding “Put some respect on my name”
