Social media users raised eyebrows this week after UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman left what some considered an awkwardly-worded comment on his daughter’s Instagram photo.
The former heavyweight champion and wrestling legend commented on his daughter Kenzie Coleman’s post from Destin, Florida, where she shared a photo of herself posing on what appears to be a balcony. The image shows Kenzie with long blonde hair, wearing light-colored clothing that reveals a tattoo on her leg.

Coleman’s verified account wrote: “O my what a beautiful day 😏 and you, of course throw in that tattoo 🔥❤️🤴🙏👊”
His daughter responded: “@markcolemanufcˮ thanks fatha 💕💕”
The exchange quickly gained attention across MMA fan communities, with many users suggesting the wording and choice of emojis came across as inappropriate given the father-daughter relationship.
Several fans defended Coleman, however, noting that the 59-year-old pioneer of ground-and-pound likely isn’t familiar with how certain emojis are interpreted in modern social media culture. Others pointed to Coleman’s history of head trauma throughout his fighting career and a near-fatal house fire he survived in 2023 as potential factors in his communication style.
“He probably assumed people wouldn’t think he meant that in the worst way it could possibly be interpreted,” one commenter wrote.
Another user suggested: “I think he is probably just saying she looks beautiful, nothing perverted or creepy about it.”
Coleman’s close relationship with his daughters is well-documented, with the fighter frequently bringing them to his bouts during his competitive years in the UFC and PRIDE FC.
The former Olympic wrestler made history as the UFC’s first heavyweight champion in 1997 and was inducted into the promotion’s Hall of Fame in 2008. He remains a respected figure in the sport despite the occasional social media misunderstanding.
In March 2024, former UFC champion Mark Coleman was hospitalized after rescuing his parents from a house fire in Fremont, Ohio. Awakened around 4 a.m. by the family dog, Hammer, Coleman discovered the fire, which was believed to have started in the kitchen due to an unattended stove. He successfully evacuated both his parents but suffered severe smoke inhalation while attempting to save Hammer, who unfortunately did not survive. Coleman was airlifted to a hospital and placed in a medically induced coma. After regaining consciousness, he expressed gratitude for his family’s safety, stating, “I’m the happiest man in the world… I can’t believe my parents are alive.” He was later released from the hospital and continued his recovery.
Regardless of his comment, Coleman is a legend of the sport and a man who strives to work on his flaw which is commendable.
