UFC fans resurface what happened to Fedor’s daughter when he opposed Kadyrov in the wake of Chimaev title win

Following Khamzat Chimaev’s recent middleweight title victory and his controversial decision to hand over his UFC belt to Adam Kadyrov, MMA fans have begun revisiting a troubling incident from 2016 that highlights the potential consequences of opposing the powerful Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

The resurfaced story centers on legendary heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko and what allegedly happened to his daughter after he publicly criticized Kadyrov’s decision to allow pre-teen children to compete in mixed martial arts competitions.

The controversy began when Grozny hosted an MMA event celebrating Kadyrov’s birthday, where the Chechen leader’s young sons participated in actual combat sports matches. Kadyrov’s eldest son, Akhmad, even scored a knockout victory against his opponent while adults cheered from the audience.

The spectacle drew criticism from various corners of the MMA community, particularly because established sport regulations prohibit children under 12 from even watching such competitions.

As head of Russia’s MMA union at the time, Emelianenko felt compelled to speak out against what he viewed as inappropriate use of minors in combat sports. His public condemnation sparked a heated online exchange with Kadyrov, who accused the former champion of interfering in his parenting decisions and made inflammatory suggestions about Emelianenko’s character.

According to multiple Russian media reports, the public disagreement took a dark turn when Emelianenko’s daughter was allegedly attacked in Moscow. The Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper initially reported that a young daughter of a famous heavyweight champion had been assaulted in the Russian capital. Journalist Eva Merkacheva later identified the victim as Emelianenko’s daughter on social media.

Moscow’s Department of Health confirmed to the R-Sport news agency that a 16-year-old girl had been hospitalized after receiving a blow to her chest. However, confusion surrounded the incident. Some reports cite different ages for the victim, and sources close to Emelianenko reportedly deny that any attack had occurred.

The timing of the alleged assault proved particularly concerning, occurring during the height of the public dispute. The incident raised questions about whether opposition to Kadyrov could result in retaliation against family members of his critics.

By October 7, 2016, Kadyrov appeared to call for an end to the controversy, posting on Instagram that his followers should cease criticizing Emelianenko. The Chechen leader claimed he was confident that the former champion had “realized his mistake.”

The resurgence of interest in this historical incident comes as Chimaev’s relationship with the Kadyrov family continues to generate debate within the MMA community. After claiming the middleweight title at UFC 319, the Swedish-Chechen native made headlines by allowing Adam Kadyrov to keep his championship belt during a recent meeting.

Video footage shared on social media platforms showed Chimaev posing with Kadyrov’s son before walking away without his newly won championship hardware. The moment sparked discussions about the fighter’s priorities and his continued association with the controversial political figure.

Chimaev has been open about his financial motivations, stating after his title victory: “Just money. Make money. People think I love too much money. I love to get the money and get the opportunity to help the people. That’s why I’m speaking about the money.”

Chimaev has also credited Ramzan Kadyrov with reviving his career during difficult periods. Speaking to Obzor press, Chimaev explained: “When I broke down, he brought me back and said, ‘If you train, you’ll become champion,’ and as he said, we returned to the sport. He brought me back to the sport and I became champion.”

Kadyrov’s involvement in mixed martial arts extends far beyond personal relationships with individual competitors. Since 2017, the Chechen leader has faced U.S. sanctions over reported human rights violations, and his Akhmat sports club was blacklisted in 2020. Despite these restrictions, his influence within the sport remains significant through investments and fighter sponsorships.
