A UFC fan has sparked controversy online by accusing YouTube content creator “MMA Guru” of systematically turning the mixed martial arts community against Jon Jones, widely considered one of the greatest MMA stars in the sport’s history.
In a video that has gained traction across social media platforms, the fan presents what he calls evidence of MMA Guru’s “brainwashing” campaign against Jones. According to the accusation, MMA Guru—who reportedly makes his living creating MMA content despite never having competed or trained professionally—has published multiple videos containing unfounded claims about Jones.
The fan highlighted four specific videos from MMA Guru’s channel with provocative titles suggesting Jones is gay or uses PEDs. Three of these videos allegedly focus on spreading rumors about Jones’ gay tendencies, while another claims to “expose” ster*id use without presenting concrete evidence.
“He did a great job of brainwashing people into hating Jon Jones online,” the fan states in the video. “Because everywhere you go on social media, any post you see about Jon Jones, you see so much hate, way more hate than you see love and appreciation.”
The accusation has divided the MMA community, with responses ranging from agreement to outright dismissal. Some users supported the claim, with one commenting, “This is 100% real this [person] has a huge role on tarnishing Jon even further.” Others pushed back, suggesting Jones’ controversies outside the octagon are responsible for public perception.
“Jon Jones is the reason people don’t like Jon Jones,” wrote one commenter, while another pointed out, “MMA Guru didn’t force anything.”
The debate touches on broader questions about the influence of content creators in combat sports media and how narratives around athletes are shaped in the digital age. While some fans form opinions based on personal research, others may be swayed by popular content creators who have built substantial platforms.
Jones, who currently holds the UFC Heavyweight Championship, has faced criticism throughout his career for various controversies outside the cage, including legal issues. However, his in-ring accomplishments remain among the most impressive in UFC history.
MMA Guru has not publicly responded to these accusations at the time of reporting.
