UFC 283 shenanigan: Heavyweight celebrates win trying to takedown DC during octagon speech

Jason Almeida has left everyone surprised and in awe after UFC 283. Not only did he finish a dangerous opponent, Shamil Abdurakhmanov, but he also managed to have a memorable interview afterward.

The bout between the two has been postponed twice due to Shamil pulling out both times. But this time, Almeida was finally able to get his hands on the Dagestani veteran.

Almeida grappled hard with Shamil who refused to be controlled and he managed to land a couple of strikes on him when he was down at the end of the first round.

In the second, Almeida opened with leg kicks and eventually took down the bulky Russian. He landed punches until Shamil, who was belly-down, couldn’t fight back, achieving a TKO.

The win has taken Almeida’s winning streak to 4 in the UFC, while he’s won 12 of his previous bouts in a row.

After, Almeida was unable to contain his enthusiasm. He jokingly tried to tackle the man who was going to interview him, Daniel Cormier, after shaking his hand.

Of course, Cormier being a two-time Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, effortlessly prevented the prank from happening with a down block while holding a mic in one hand.

Regarding his choice of opponents, “Maldinho” said that he’ll “be ready for whoever wants it,” via an interpreter. Almeida, who joined the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series 39, just had his first taste of ranked competition and succeeded.

While fans loved the performance that Almeida put out, they’re all talking about the post-fight interview with Cormier.

Everybody’s pointing out his muscle memory by saying how the legend has “still got it” and how his skills have been “wired into his DNA”.

The former two-division UFC champion finally responded to the incident by commenting on a video of it on Instagram. DC wrote: “My eyes were closed! Down block natural lol”
