UFC 279: Johnny Walker chokes Ion Cutelaba in round 1

Johnny Walker had a rough year with that knock out loss to Jamahal Hill. But he recovered in style and ended his clash with Ion Cutelaba early in order to ask for a spot on the UFC’s Brazil card.

Light heavyweights Ion Cutelaba and Johnny Walker traded takedowns early on in round 1. While it looked like Walker was in deep, he managed to get free. Cutelaba won’t be as lucky.

Walker came into tonight having lost 4 of his last 5. Cutelaba had a similar streak, needing the win. The loser is likely to get cut by the UFC. The fact that they weren’t already is a testament to how much light heavyweight division is struggling ever since longtime champion Jon Jones decided to move up.

Walker got the arm under the chin and scored a short choke type variation looked like – giving him the W.
