In a sea of decisions during the prelims of UFC 276, Brad Tavares and Dricus Du Plessis stand out with their match up.
The fight was marketed as new blood meets old guard with Tavares having spent the last 12 years in the prestigious promotion. Du Plessis came in lacking in UFC experience but having become a champion in both EFC and KSW.
He immediately clinched Tavares and came out looking strong. While his takedown attempt somewhat backfired he was able to recover and get back up.
Tavares’ strategy appeared to be waiting for Du Plessis to blow his load and as out.
Du Plessis came out swinging once again in round two and it paid off. He staggered Tavares after landing a big right and following up with a charging combo.
He opened up Tavares and carried the momentum.
Du Plessis rocked him at the end of the round and capped it off with a huge knee at the bell.
In Round three Tavares took some heavy hits. Du Plessis went to the body kicking and then landed a good combo through the guard. In the end Du Plessis scored an unanimous decision win with all three judges scoring 29-28 for him.
