Boxing champion Tyson Fury and his wife Paris are celebrating their daughter’s engagement while simultaneously facing the reality that wedding bells won’t be ringing anytime soon.
Venezuela Fury, who just turned 16, recently became engaged to amateur boxer Noah Price in what appears to be a heartfelt proposal that was captured and shared on social media. The moment clearly moved her parents, with Paris posting the engagement video alongside an enthusiastic message of support.
“Congratulations to @venezuelafuryofficial and @7noahprice on getting engaged,” Paris wrote in her social media post. “Both only young, but when you know, you know! Still in shock but very happy for you both. Me and your Dad couldn’t be prouder xxx.”
Despite the family’s obvious joy and approval of the union, legal barriers now stand in the way of the young couple’s wedding plans. Recent changes to UK marriage law mean Venezuela and Noah will need to wait until she reaches 18 before they can officially tie the knot.
The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022, which came into effect in February 2023, specifically prohibits anyone under 18 from marrying or entering a civil partnership in the UK. This represents a significant shift from previous legislation, as the new law removes even the possibility of parental consent allowing younger marriages.
According to government guidelines, the legislation ensures that “16 and 17 year olds will no longer be allowed to marry or enter a civil partnership, even if they have parental consent.”
For the Fury family, this means at least a two-year engagement period lies ahead. The heavyweight boxing legend, who has seven children with Paris, is known for being protective of his family, particularly his daughters. Venezuela herself has previously described their relationship as close but acknowledged her father’s strict parenting style.
“He just doesn’t like me wearing makeup and looking nice,” Venezuela revealed during the 2023 Netflix series ‘At Home With The Furys’. She added with typical teenage humor: “Strict parents raise sneaky kids.”
Paris has also spoken candidly about navigating the challenges of raising a teenage daughter, describing Venezuela as “12 going on 20” and noting the typical ups and downs of their relationship. “We can get along like a house on fire, but then, in the next breath, she hates me and she hates life and she hates her outfit. I think that’s just the teenage drama you get with kids,” Paris explained.
The engagement comes at an interesting time for the Fury household. Tyson, now 37, recently announced his retirement from professional boxing following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, though speculation about a potential comeback continues to swirl thanks to interest from Saudi boxing officials.
