Tommy Fury frontrunner to face Jake Paul, as confirmed by dad John Fury

According to John Fury, Tommy Fury and Jake Paul are in discussions to reschedule their long-awaited boxing match.

John Fury, the father of Tyson and Tommy, disclosed to Free Bets that a boxing match between the two was being negotiated. Paul, according to Fury, has given boxing a new lease on life. He is bringing new eyes to the sport while generating a lot of noise.

The match was supposed to happen at the end of last year. However, it was postponed owing to a fractured rib and a chest infection experienced by Tommy Fury, the former Love Island star.

“We’re looking at the Jake Paul situation but there’s a long way to go with it,” Tommy stated when asked about his next fight.

“That’s still in negotiation and up in the air, the lawyers are dealing with it as we speak.”

John Fury added, “I’m not interested in what Jake Paul does unless we’re fighting him, but he’s good for boxing. He’s bringing new eyes and he’s making a lot of noise.”

“We’re trying our best to get the fight with Tommy over the line, but there are a couple of major factors we’re trying to get ironed out and if we can, we’ll do it.”

According to John, any fight that does take place would most likely take place in America.

On the other hand, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may be signing up for a match. Joshua just signed with streaming provider DAZN after leaving Sky Sports.

After fighting Dillian Whyte earlier this year, Tyson reclaimed the WBC and Ring heavyweight titles. He also announced his retirement then – but has since backtracked on that.

Of course, this event will be contingent on Joshua defeating Oleksandr Usyk. He would need to reclaim the WBA, WBO, and IBF championships in the match this year.

“I’ll be watching (AJ v Usyk). It’s good to see a fellow Brit trying to climb a mountain,” said John.

“It is a mountain for AJ. It’s an Everest for him, but I think he can do it. He’s a big strong guy and it was only a game plan that let him down last time. All AJ has to do is tweak a few things and sheer size and power wins.”

“He’s got a funny way of doing things. He beat (Andy) Ruiz in Saudi on the return so why not? If anyone’s capable it’s AJ. I hope he does win and who knows, a fight against him might just tempt Tyson. Nobody else will.”
