Thor Bjornsson sets new world deadlift record

The strongman world witnessed another jaw-dropping display of raw power as Hafthor Bjornsson once again rewrote the record books. According to sources, he made an astronomical 510kg deadlift at the World Deadlift Championships in Birmingham.

The Icelandic powerhouse is beloved for his portrayal of “The Mountain” in Game of Thrones. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches and weighing an incredible 31.4 stone, Bjornsson’s latest achievement marks his third world record in the deadlift.

This remarkable feat builds upon an impressive progression of record-breaking lifts. The journey began when rival Eddie Hall became the first person to deadlift 500kg back in 2016. However, Bjornsson systematically dismantled that, first lifting 501kg in 2020 during the pandemic, then pushing the boundaries further with a 505kg lift in July before reaching this new pinnacle of 510kg.

What makes Bjornsson’s achievement even more extraordinary is his physical transformation over recent years. The strongman had dramatically reduced his weight from 31 stone to 22 stone when he temporarily shifted focus to other pursuits, including a successful venture into boxing where he emerged victorious against Hall in 2022.

Despite this significant weight reduction, he has managed to return to elite-level strongman competition while maintaining his record-breaking deadlift capabilities.

The crowd’s reaction in Birmingham was electric, with Bjornsson himself roaring in triumph as the weight hit the platform. The strongman community and fans worldwide quickly took to social media to express their amazement at the display.

“That is absurd,” wrote one impressed observer, capturing the sentiment of many witnessing the incredible lift.

Another fan marveled at the apparent ease with which the record was broken, commenting, “He could have repped that, the strength is unfathomable.”

The admiration continued to pour in, with supporters recognizing Bjornsson’s talent: “He was born to do this.”

Others noted the potential for even greater achievements, with one fan observing, “He has an extra 20kg in the bank.”

Bjornsson’s dedication to his craft extends far beyond the competition platform. The 2018 World’s Strongest Man champion maintains an intense lifestyle that includes consuming up to 10,000 calories daily to fuel his massive frame and demanding training regimen.

Bjornsson also dominated the simultaneous Giants Live World Open strongman contest, demonstrating his versatility across multiple strength disciplines including the Front Hold and Power Stairs competitions.
