Theo Von explains why he shows up to UFC cards early

Comedian Theo Von has developed quite a reputation in the UFC community for his unusual habit of arriving at events long before the main card begins. While most spectators filter in fashionably late for the marquee matchups, Von can be found in his seat from the very first preliminary bout, often sitting in a nearly empty arena.

He talked about it in a recent podcast episode of Bussin’ With The Boys. “I love it,” Von explained when asked about his early arrival ritual. His reasoning goes beyond simple punctuality – it’s rooted in a genuine appreciation for the sport’s deeper meaning.

Von draws a vivid contrast between everyday conflicts and the sanctity of professional competition. “You could watch a couple of f**ing Muppets in your apartment complex, you know, slap each other over some detergent or shit. Or you could go out here early and see two guys who have been chasing their dreams f**king live out their action.”

For him, each preliminary bout represents years of dedication, sacrifice, and preparation coming to fruition under the bright lights.

The comedian finds it puzzling that more fans don’t share his enthusiasm for the complete event experience. “It’s crazy to me that people don’t go early. I’ve seen some of the best fights ever early, man.”

His dedication to witnessing every moment hasn’t gone unnoticed by those in the industry. The sight of Von sitting alone in the sparse early crowd has become something of a curiosity. “It is weird. It feels a little like, even some of the fighters are like, what is this guy doing here?”

Behind every UFC card lies a collection of individual stories – athletes who’ve trained for months or years for their moment in the octagon, regardless of their position in the event.
