The Rock Gets Shamed For Wanting To Eat Grilled Salmon Strips, Not Chicken Wings on Hot Ones

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, known for his chiseled physique and strict dietary regimen, nearly made an appearance on the popular YouTube series “Hot Ones” with a unique twist. Sean Evans, the show’s host, recently revealed that the Hollywood superstar had a special request that would have broken from the show’s traditional format.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Evans disclosed that after years of attempting to book Johnson for the show, they finally received a response. However, the reply came with an unexpected condition: The Rock wanted to substitute the show’s signature spicy chicken wings with grilled salmon strips.

“We’ve been pitching [The Rock] obviously for years,” Evans explained. “One time I got a note back that was like, ‘would you be willing to do, instead of wings, grilled salmon strips?'” The host admitted that he immediately suspected the request came directly from Johnson himself.

This revelation offers a glimpse into the dedication Johnson has to his diet, even when considering appearing on a show known for its culinary challenges. The actor’s commitment to his fitness routine and nutrition plan is well-documented, with his meals often consisting of lean proteins like chicken, fish, and egg whites.

It has since gone viral with plenty of commenters suggesting that The Rock’s extreme diet concern might be a sign of an eating disoreder orthorexia.

Orthorexia is an unhealthy obsession with eating foods that a person believes are “pure” or “healthy.” Unlike other eating disorders, orthorexia focuses less on the amount of food consumed and more on the quality. People with orthorexia are often preoccupied with selecting foods they perceive as clean, organic, or free from additives. This can lead to rigid dietary restrictions, causing nutritional deficiencies and impacting overall well-being.

While it isn’t officially classified as a diagnosable condition in the DSM-5 (the manual for mental health disorders), orthorexia can have serious physical and psychological consequences. It shares similarities with other eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) due to its focus on control and perfectionism around food.

While The Rock’s potential appearance with salmon strips remains a tantalizing “what if” scenario, “Hot Ones” continues to attract high-profile guests. Recent episodes have included interviews with stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Paul Rudd, and Jenna Ortega, all of whom braved the show’s notorious hot sauce lineup.
