Terence Crawford pulled over by Police and held at gunpoint following his victory parade

Undefeated boxing champion Terence Crawford’s celebratory weekend in his hometown took an unexpected turn when he was pulled over and detained by Omaha police hours after being honored with a victory parade.

In video footage that has circulated widely on social media, Crawford can be seen carefully exiting his vehicle with his hands visible while an officer points a weapon at him during the early morning hours on Sunday.

“I’m opening the door,” Crawford can be heard saying calmly in the video. “I’m not reaching for no [weapon], bro.”

The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. when officers reportedly observed a vehicle driving recklessly near North 12th and Capitol Avenue, according to a statement from the Omaha Police Department. During the traffic stop at Cass Street, an officer observed a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard, which prompted officers to order all occupants out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Omaha Mayor John Ewing acknowledged the situation in a statement following the circulation of the video. The Omaha Police Department confirmed that Police Chief Todd Schmaderer has authorized an internal affairs investigation into the matter.

According to police, Crawford was identified after verification of his driver’s license and issued a citation for reckless driving. Authorities also noted that a passenger, identified as a member of Crawford’s security team, was legally carrying a firearm. Police confirmed that all occupants had legal permits to carry firearms.

The incident came just hours after Crawford had been celebrated with a championship parade in Omaha, a tribute to his recent victory over Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas on September 13. The high-profile bout, which aired on Netflix, further cemented Crawford’s status as one of boxing’s elite competitors.

Crawford, who boasts a perfect 42-0 professional record with 31 knockouts, is widely regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world and holds the undisputed super middleweight championship.

A police supervisor and lieutenant reportedly responded to the scene at Crawford’s request. As of now, Crawford has declined to comment publicly on the incident.

The Omaha Police Department’s internal investigation is ongoing.
