UFC has seen it all. Through their lengthy history in the sport the promotion has learned that security plays a very important role in organizing any event.
While there have been a number of problematic situations, rarely has an outside interference caused as much disturbance as it did 8 years ago. Or so the fans were convinced after the following gif was posted online.
This took place during a main event of UFC Fight Night 56 in Uberlândia, Brazil.
MMA fandom has infamously short memory – which is why The Rock was forced to scrap his Mark Coleman biopic. The fans who follow UFC today know very little if anything about the stars from 10 let alone 20 years ago.
Of course the impressive video edit is almost as old as the event. It originated on Vine the now defunct short video app. The original isn’t available to view any more but it had close to 2 million views.
It’s interesting to note that Shogun Rua would go on to rematch Ovince St. Preux last year and lose again – this time by split decision.
Rua is among the last remaining veterans from that era. He is set to retire at another Brazil event – this January in Rio De Janeiro against Ihor Potieria.
His record stands at 27 wins 13 losses and 1 draw.
Luckily the unedited footage of the finish can also be seen online.
