Actor Shia LaBeouf recently sat down with Andrew Callaghan for a candid interview, just one week after his arrest during Mardi Gras celebrations.
During the conversation, LaBeouf talked about criticism from political commentator Nick Fuentes, who accused the actor of being “performative.” LaBeouf admitted the remarks got to him.
“I’m not trying to be dramatic. I heard some motherf**ker say I was performative today. You know, it bothered me,” he said.
Callaghan offered reassurance, replying, “Doesn’t seem like it to me, man.”
Fuentes had publicly criticized LaBeouf’s recent behavior, particularly his Mardi Gras incident.
“Everybody’s talking about that. Shia LaBeouf is crazy. Dude, he’s so pick me. I feel like everything he does is just performative,” Fuentes said.
He then went on to call LaBeouf a performative male who acts crazy.
Fuentes stated: “Is that just me? Shia LaBeouf has done so much stuff like that. You’re just performative…. I don’t like performative males. I don’t like, pick me stuff. If you’re crazy, okay, be crazy. But don’t be a pick me performative male where you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, here I am tearing up Mardi Gras.’ It’s like a desperate cry for attention. ”
During the conversation with Callaghan, LaBeouf offered his own perspective on Mardi Gras and the events that led to his arrest.
“Everybody’s got motivations on Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is Mardi Gras. God bless these dudes. I’m sorry it happened. Mardi Gras, they want to make it an extra thing. I understand. Go ahead, bro,” he said.
He continued: “Look, here’s my here’s my truth. I’m around, I’m in the street all day. Yeah. I’m outside all day long. All day long. Before Mardi Gras after Mardi Gras, I’m outside all day long. This city is love, bro.”
Describing how he navigates public life, LaBeouf compared himself to a familiar, approachable figure.
“I’m like Will Smith. I’m like an uncle, dawg. I just move around. It’s love everywhere. I get love pretty much everywhere. The minute I get into trouble is with a person who is after something.”
The conversation also shifted toward whether his recent behavior signaled a need for rehab or lifestyle changes.
He stated: “Does that mean I gotta go to rehab again? I’m just not into it, bro. I don’t think my answers are there. If I genuinely did, I’d go. I don’t think I have a d**nking problem. I think I have a different problem, and I’m going to address it.”
When pressed on what that “different problem” might be, LaBeouf turned inward.
“I think I have a small man complex. Some kind of Napoleonic, I don’t know what it is. I think it’s something that has to do with anger and ego more so than my consumption. But that’s where I’m at now on my journey. I’m trying to navigate it. I’ll figure it out.”
