Rumor: UFC targets Stipe Miocic and Tai Tuivasa fight

Stipe Miocic just can’t catch a break. Former heavyweight UFC champion is looking to return to the cage following March 2021 loss to Francis Ngannou, before that he had back to back wins against Daniel Cormier in 2019 and 2020.

39 year old has the fight record consisting of 20 wins and 4 losses – 3 being via knock out. Prior to Tuivasa talks, there were rumors Miocic would be the one to welcome former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to the heavyweight division. This was believed to be a smart match up for Jones. UFC champion turned analyst Michael Bisping speculated that Stipe would be the easiest match up for Jones out of the top 4 guys in the division saying:

“I love Stipe; I just don’t think that’s as big of a fight as he could have had in the heavyweight division. It’s very smart of him because it’s the best matchup for him, likely. I would say that Stipe is, out of the top three or four guys in the division, Stipe is the easiest fight for him. I’m not saying he’s easy. I’m saying it’s the easiest matchup.”

Tai Tuivasa is fresh off of an impressive victory over Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa knocked out Lewis with an elbow in front of his hometown crowd after facing severe adversity in round 1. Tuivasa was in deep trouble in the first round – first he was taken down and then having eaten 5 to 10 strikes to the head while getting up from the ground.

Tuivasa is an interesting match up for Miocic – being a very different body type from Lewis. Stipe is rumored to be walking around in the 230s with a tall frame. Meanwhile Tuivasa is a self confessed fat boy.

“I walk past a good feed and put on 4 kilos, it’s easy for us fat boys.” Tuivasa told Australian outlet fightnewsaustralia.

Tuivasa walks around well above the 120kg (264lbs) heavyweight limit, sometimes getting as heavy as 140 kilograms (308lbs). Tuivasa is currently ranked number 3 in the division – with Miocic, Gane and champion Francis Ngannou ahead of him.

The fight is rumored to be targeted for July. The rumor was first reported on twitter:
