The UFC has officially released Travis Browne, the husband of former UFC champion Ronda Rousey, from his contract. Browne, who last competed in the octagon in 2017, has been a member of the UFC roster for over 7 years, but his long period of inactivity has ultimately led to the promotion’s decision to part ways with him.
According to MMA journalist Damon Martin, the UFC has confirmed Browne’s release, stating that “Travis Browne has been released from the UFC roster after his contract was completed, per UFC officials. Browne hasn’t fought since 2017 and I’ve not heard anything that he plans to compete again, but he’s no longer with the UFC.”
The news comes after a series of setbacks for Browne, who once held a promising career in the heavyweight division. In his last four fights, he suffered a second-round submission loss to Aleksei Oleinik, a knockout defeat against Derrick Lewis, a decision loss to Fabricio Werdum, and a technical knockout defeat at the hands of Cain Velasquez.
Despite his recent struggles, Browne has had a notable career in the UFC, compiling a record of 9-7-1 in the promotion. He has notable victories over the likes of Alistair Overeem, Brendan Schaub, Stefan Struve, and Josh Barnett.
However, it appears that the UFC is no longer interested in keeping Browne on the roster, especially given his extended period of inactivity. As MMA journalist Nolan King pointed out, earlier this year, it seemed that Browne was invested in making a comeback, but it’s unclear if the UFC’s decision to release him puts those plans to rest or allows him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
The release of Browne marks the end of his tenure with the UFC, which began in 2010. It remains to be seen whether the 41-year-old will continue his career or choose to focus on other endeavors. Regardless, his husband’s relationship with Ronda Rousey, a former UFC champion, has been a subject of interest for fans and media alike over the years.
