Rapper friend roasts Joe Rogan over racist Planet of the apes joke

Immensely popular podcaster Joe Rogan is no stranger to making
controversial headlines.

Joe Rogan landed in hot water at the beginning of the year when hundreds of Doctors and healthcare workers signed a letter protesting his coverage of the pandemic and accused him of spreading misinformation through his popular podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’.

That round of outrage was followed in February by a resurfacing of an unbelievable video montage of Rogan using a racial slur. Rogan defenders also had to tackle with another round of outrage – the one caused by a racially insensitive joke about a black neighborhood resembling a planet of the apes movie.  Joe Rogan later apologized on his social media for what he called “the most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.” He also said that the clips were “taken out of context” and he only quoted the slurs to discuss the use by others. Ultimately, more than 70 episodes of his podcasts were taken off  from the catalogue by ‘Spotify’.

Rapper Freddie Gibbs recently ripped Joe Rogan for his use of racial slurs and claimed that he ‘protected’ Joe from getting beaten up by the Black community.

Freddie and Rogan were present on the comedy podcast Kill Tony on March 15. While speaking the rapper went on to discuss Rogan’s racial slur fiasco.

“The world is changing, s***. Joe Rogan said [the n-word] and s***”

Gibbs joked on the show, prompting Rogan to respond: “It’s been years, let it go.”

“That wasn’t years [ago], that was days,” Gibbs told Rogan.

Gibbs also informed Rogan how he saved him from getting beat-up for his “Planet of the Apes” remarks about visiting a movie theatre in a Black Neighborhood in Philadelphia.

In a viral video clip Rogan can be seen saying “We walked into Planet of the Apes, we walked into Africa.”

Talk-show host Trevor Noah called it “OG Racism”.

“You lucky I got family in Philadelphia because they was coming there to f*** you up. I held [them] back on behalf of Joe. Y’all give me a round of applause.” The rapper said.

The rapper also insisted Rogan should “thank him” for protecting him. Kill Tony shows are edgy and consist of a comedian and the panel he tries to roast in process. Rogan is a close friend of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and frequently guests on the panel.
