ONE FC veteran sentenced to 2 years in jail for killing his brother

Elipitua Siregar is a 26-year-old professional mixed martial artist from Indonesia. He has been found guilty of beating his older brother, Marganti Siregar, to death.

The tragic incident took place on October 15, 2022, at the brothers’ parents’ house, where an argument between them turned violent.

Siregar competed seven times for ONE Championship, a Singapore-based MMA promotion.

He was handed a lenient sentence of just two years in prison. He was found guilty under Article 351 paragraph (3) of the Penal Code, which deals with mistreatment resulting in death.

Presiding Judge Cory Fondrara, during a hearing at the Tarutung District Court on Wednesday, declared the accused Elipitua Siregar to have been validly and conclusively proven guilty of committing the crime of mistreatment resulting in death.

Head of the Legal Information Section of the Prosecutor’s Office, Yos A Tarigan, confirmed the verdict received by Elipitua. A panel of judges chaired by Cory Fondrara at PN Tarutung on March 8 read the two-year prison sentence against the MMA pro.

Reports indicate that the argument between the brothers escalated, leading the younger Elipitua to strike his brother with a piece of wood. After committing the crime, Elipitua fled the scene in tears, leaving his brother to succumb to his injuries.

The tragic incident highlights the potential dangers of getting physical, even among family members. The MMA community has been stunned by the news, and many have expressed their condolences to the family of Marganti Siregar.

Elipitua Siregar’s case is a tragic reminder of the destructive consequences of violence. While the MMA community often celebrates the sport’s physicality, it’s essential to remember that the skills used in the ring should never be taken outside of it.

We must continue to hold individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or occupation. Let us hope that justice is served, and that the family of Marganti Siregar can find closure and peace.
