Ngannou’s Manager Admits He Planted Ngannou Question to Tyson Fury with the Help of Ariel Helwani

In a revealing episode of “Verse Us with Eric Nicksick,” Francis Ngannou’s former manager Marquel Martin shared the behind-the-scenes strategy that ultimately led to the historic boxing match between Ngannou and Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Martin disclosed that he orchestrated having a question about Ngannou asked to Tyson Fury during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s show. “From getting a question asked on Ariel Helwani from him asking Tyson Fury about Francis on his show. That was all me calling,” Martin revealed.

This planted question was part of a calculated strategy to generate interest in a potential matchup between the UFC heavyweight champion and boxing’s lineal heavyweight king. Martin explained that their approach was deliberately strategic: “It was all like pre-premeditated.”

The strategy extended beyond media manipulation. Martin detailed how he and Ngannou traveled to London specifically to be seen and create buzz around a potential matchup. “Going out there just to be seen in London… That was all premeditated,” Martin said. “I knew I like to be like a strategist when it comes to business. I was like all we got to do is be seen. And then the world will make the connection.”

Their visibility tactics worked, leading to a face-off that garnered widespread attention. Martin then reached out to George Warren to discuss making the fight happen, positioning it as a low-risk opportunity for Fury during a time when other potential fights had fallen through.

The strategy ultimately succeeded, resulting in the historic October 2023 boxing match in Saudi Arabia where Ngannou, despite losing a controversial split decision, shocked the world by knocking down Fury and putting on a remarkable performance in his professional boxing debut.

“In spite of everyone trying to shut it down… everyone trying to [criticize] it from media to fans to other fighters… it was us against the world,” Martin reflected on the journey to making the fight happen.

Ultimately Martin was succesful and helped Ngannou reached unrivaled paydays and a lucrative career in boxing.
