In a candid social media post, legendary combat sports athlete John Wayne Parr has opened up about his personal health journey, revealing his decade-long experience with Tourette’s syndrome and OCD.
“Time to let the cat out of the bag,” Parr shared with his followers. “Over the last ten years of my career, I seem to have developed tics from OCD-Tourette’s.”
The Australian champion explained how his condition has progressed over time, stating, “Over the years my Tourette’s went single tic, to double, now vocal.”
Parr, known for his remarkable achievements in combat sports, maintained his characteristic positive attitude while discussing his condition. “Even when I tic, I’m the Tic King 👑!” he declared, showing his resilient spirit in facing this challenge.
Fellow athlete Sean Strickland responded with supportive advice, sharing his own experience: “The busier I stay the less twitchy I am. Or if you just want to completely ignore the problem try something less noticeable like rubbing your fingers together lmao!!! Good luck”
Parr emphasized that his disclosure was primarily aimed at raising awareness about the condition, which can develop at various stages of life. His openness about living with Tourette’s syndrome while maintaining an elite athletic career serves as an inspiration and helps reduce stigma surrounding the neurological condition.

This revelation adds another layer to Parr’s already compelling story as one of the most respected figures in combat sports, demonstrating that even celebrated athletes face personal challenges while continuing to excel in their professional careers.
