MMA world celebrates Halloween: McGregor shares wildly insensitive pics of mom in blackface

MMA community is made up of some of the world’s most colorful characters. They’re free to show off their personalities during the Halloween celebrations each year.

The most spooky and outrageous holiday of the year was celebrated in full force this year by mixed martial artists  from every promotion, who donned their finest costumes, adorned themselves with the spookiest wigs, and generally went all out.

Below are some of the most impressive makeovers, including those of athletes from the PFL, Bellator, UFC, and more.

Demetrius Johnson and his wife had creative outfits
Rob Whittaker tried a low budget variation

Max Holloway and family put on yet another group costume

Cub Swanson and his family posed as power rangers.

Paige Vanzant and Mr Vanzant went as a prisoner and a police officer.

Valerie Loureda went as Lola the Bunny from Space Jam

However, McGregor’s mother stole the spotlight with her very own problematic costume this Halloween. She donned a very offensive costume, which can be dubbed as blackface.

The term ‘blackface’ is used to describe the custom of using makeup to mimic a black person’s look. From the 1830s through the middle of the 20th century, minstrel performances in the United States were known for using this kind of makeup. Today ,those are very insulting.

However, this seems probable considering McGregor has received a lot of criticism for a number of racist things before. Previously he posted a video of himself on Instagram using the ‘n word ‘while rapping to Notorious BIG.

Despite the overwhelming number of critical comments, McGregor has not yet taken down the video from his account.

McGregor has already had to defend himself from being labelled a racist. His media week prior to facing Jose Aldo was in particularly troubling with him promising:

“When I’m done, I’m going to turn his favela into a Reebok sweatshop.”

And following that up with:

“If this were a different time, I would enter his favela on horseback and murder everybody who was not fit to work.”
