MMA star Shamad Erzanukaev arrested in connection to murder case in Poland

In a development that has rocked Poland’s mixed martial arts community, 23-year-old KSW star Shamad Erzanukaev has been arrested in connection with a homicide case in Warsaw’s upscale Wilanów district.

The incident, which occurred on February 20, 2025, involved the discovery of 31-year-old Oliwier’s body in an apartment on Sarmacka Street. Most disturbing was the fact that three individuals were found inside the residence with the deceased.

According to investigators, Oliwier had been hosting two men in his apartment for several days. Around 3:30 a.m. on February 20, a young woman joined them. Later that day, at approximately 4:30 p.m., concerned family members attempted to contact Oliwier and access his apartment without success. With the help of building security, they eventually entered the premises, where they discovered Oliwier lying on the floor showing no signs of life.

A family member immediately alerted neighbors to the situation. Two specially trained neighbors—one a former special forces officer and the other an active paramedic—rushed to the scene and began resuscitation efforts. Despite the body appearing cold and limp, suggesting death had occurred hours earlier, they continued resuscitation until two emergency medical teams arrived.

In a bizarre twist, during the resuscitation attempts, three individuals—two men and a woman—emerged from a locked bedroom. While not displaying aggression toward the first responders, they reportedly were reluctant to follow instructions, creating a tense atmosphere during the emergency response. Rescuers notified emergency dispatchers about the potential threat posed by these individuals. Upon the arrival of police and paramedics, all three were detained.

Despite nearly an hour of resuscitation efforts, Oliwier was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy conducted on March 3, 2025, at the Medical Examination Center in Warsaw determined the cause of death to be violent asphyxiation.

“The medical examiner categorically stated that death occurred through a mechanism of violent asphyxiation. According to our sources, the deceased had a distinct mark in the area of the larynx,” said Piotr Antoni Skiba, Spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. The investigation is being conducted as a homicide under Article 148 § 1 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential sentence of 10 years to life imprisonment.

The three individuals found at the scene have been placed in three-month pretrial detention. They include a man identified only as Andrej, an approximately 20-year-old woman whose identity remains undetermined, and 23-year-old Shamad E., a Chechen-origin MMA fighter associated with the KSW organization. Erzanukaev is also well-known in Polish rap circles, frequently appearing in social media posts with prominent rappers.

The prosecutor’s office continues an intensive investigation to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic death.
