The combat sports community is mourning the loss of Tania Souza, a beloved personal trainer and ring girl who was discovered deceased at her residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 25th.
Souza had relocated from Manaus several months prior, seeking to expand her career opportunities in Brazil’s larger metropolitan area while building her presence as a fitness content creator and personal training professional.
The young woman gained recognition through her work with Mr Cage, a mixed martial arts promotion where she served as a ring girl across multiple events. Her association with the organization marked a significant chapter in her career, particularly as she became known as the “ring girl of Amazonia” throughout the Amazon region.
The Mr Cage team released an emotional statement honoring their former colleague: “I want to register here my eternal gratitude to Tania Souza, a great friend who deeply marked our history. She was the first Ring Girl of our events, we believed in her and she believed in our work from the beginning and shone with her presence, beauty, joy and light.”
The tribute continued: “Tania, you are no longer with us, but you remain alive in every memory, in every photo, in every special moment we shared. Thank you for everything you have been for — for friendship, for strength, and for walking with us from the beginning.”
Those close to Souza revealed she had been experiencing a challenging period in her life, with reports indicating she had been dealing with symptoms of depression. Her move to Rio de Janeiro represented an attempt to broaden her professional horizons, maintaining active engagement with her social media following while pursuing new employment opportunities in the fitness industry.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death, and investigations are presumably ongoing.
Social media platforms were flooded with messages of condolence and remembrance from friends, colleagues, and admirers.
One mourner wrote: “My sympathy and my condolences to the family and friends of Tania Souza and hold in the hands of the Lord Jesus that he will comfort you.”
Another posted: “My beautiful friend you are gone,” while a third commented: “My deepest sympathies! Tania was very sweet.”
The Mr Cage organization concluded their statement with: “May GOD receive you with all his love, envelop you in eternal peace and illuminate your rest. The longing stays… but your light will never be extinguished. OUR FOREVER RING GIRL. Rest in peace, Tania. You will always be fondly remembered.”
