MMA fighter Mason “Sticks” Hibbs has come forward to dispute the allegations that he pulled a gun on his mother during a dispute over a restaurant bill. The incident, which allegedly occurred on July 9th at TJ Mulligans in Memphis, has left many in the community questioning the details of the altercation.
According to Hibbs, the evening started off as a celebration for his 23rd birthday, with him, his mother, and her boyfriend out for a meal. However, tensions began to rise when Hibbs’ mother became upset over a video his friend had taken during the gathering. “She got upset because she doesn’t like him,” Hibbs explained to outkick, “and she started yelling at me that he needs to delete the video.”
Hoping to defuse the situation, Hibbs says he tried to assure his mother that the video was not of her. “At that point, we were just ready to leave,” he added. As the group headed to their car, Hibbs maintains that he was simply putting his firearm, which he regularly carries, back into his backpack when his mother claimed he had threatened her with it. “It wasn’t used in any way,” Hibbs insisted. “I don’t care how much you make me mad, I just would never do that.”
The situation escalated further when Hibbs’ mother’s boyfriend got involved, leading to a physical altercation. Hibbs denies any wrongdoing, stating that it was the boyfriend who threw the first punch. “I’d just had enough at that point,” he said. “I told him, look, I’m not here to fight.”
Hibbs also vehemently denies allegations that he had run out on his restaurant bill, stating that he had paid his own tab and that the issue stemmed from his friends’ unpaid tabs. “I paid my own tab. My tab was paid,” he said, providing a screenshot of his bill as evidence.
The incident has left Hibbs facing a felony aggravated assault charge, which could jeopardize his MMA career. However, he remains adamant that he did not pull a gun on his mother and is determined to clear his name. “I don’t need it to come out as this guy pulled a weapon on his mom over a $20 bar tab. That’s not what happened,” he concluded.
As the legal proceedings continue, the community waits to see how this mother-son dispute will be resolved, and whether Hibbs can salvage his MMA career in the aftermath.
