An incident that has rocked the community of Sherbrooke, Quebec. Former mixed martial arts fighter Strahinja Gavrilovic, 38, and his wife Édith Dumas, 32, were found with fatal injuries late Saturday night.
According to information obtained by La Tribune, emergency services responded to a call around 2 AM Sunday morning when a witness reported an injured person on Ball Street in downtown Sherbrooke. Upon arrival, first responders found Gavrilovic seriously injured outside the residence. While securing the premises, police discovered Dumas inside the home, also gravely wounded.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, both succumbed to their injuries. Dumas was pronounced dead at the scene, while Gavrilovic’s death was confirmed later on Sunday.
Neighbors interviewed by La Tribune reported hearing multiple gunshots during the night. Authorities have established a large security perimeter around the crime scene, with Ball Street closed to traffic between Alexandre Street and des Fusiliers Street. The Camirand Park, Dufresne Park, and part of the rear parking lot of Centre Sherbrooke were also closed to the public.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has taken over the investigation, with spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel stating, “Investigators are currently in the field to understand what happened. We are interviewing witnesses and checking if there are cameras in the area. We are looking for information.”
The SQ has indicated there is no cause for public concern as the incident appears to be targeted. They have not yet released information about the cause of death or potential motives.
Gavrilovic, known in the MMA world as “The Werewolf,” had a professional record of 8 wins and 6 losses. He also had a significant criminal history, including a recent conviction for extortion and uttering threats in March 2024, for which he received a 14-month prison sentence. He had previously served time for domestic violence charges as well.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
