MMA fans were left scratching their heads after witnessing the staggering size difference between middleweights Cam Rowston and Torrez Finney during their pre-fight face-off.
The duo is set to square off on Tuesday evening in Las Vegas on Season 8 Episode 2 of the Contender Series, where both men are aiming to impress UFC President Dana White and earn a coveted contract with the promotion.
As the fighters took the stage for the traditional pre-fight staredown, the vast height disparity between them immediately caught the attention of fans on social media. Rowston, who trains at the renowned City Kickboxing gym in New Zealand, appeared to tower over his opponent by around a foot, despite being listed at 6’2″ and Finney at 5’8″.
“Either Finney isn’t 5’8″ or Rowston isn’t 6’2″ lmao,” one fan tweeted, while another joked, “Looks a foot taller.”
Another observer quipped, “I’ll give him 5’5″ at most,” referencing Finney’s listed height.
Despite the massive physical advantage, Finney enters the bout as the 1/4 favorite, thanks to his impressive 8-0 record on the regional scene. The 25-year-old made a brief appearance on the Contender Series last year, picking up a second-round submission victory over Yuri Panferov, but fell short of earning a UFC contract.
Rowston, on the other hand, hasn’t competed in almost two years, withdrawing from a scheduled Contender Series bout during the last season. At 8-2, the 29-year-old Australian will be looking to make a statement and prove he deserves a spot on the UFC roster.
Final result? Torrez Finney defeats Cam Rowston by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
