Luke Rockhold says an abortion and a break up brought him back to the UFC

Luke Rockhold has spoken candidly about the struggles in his personal life that led to his decision to rejoin the UFC.

Luke Rockhold, a former UFC champion, has been out for a while. The 37-year-most old’s recent appearance was in July 2019. Since then, Rockhold has been slated for a number of contests. However, none of them have taken place.

His most recent matches inside the octagon have also not gone well. Three of Rockhold’s previous four bouts have ended in losses, all by way of knockout.

The tough streak began at UFC 199 when he was submitted by Michael Bisping in a title match. Rockhold recovered and defeated David Branch in a stunning TKO.

He subsequently met Yoel Romero, who had brutally defeated the previous UFC champion at UFC 221. Rockhold subsequently increased his weight and faced Jan Blachowicz at UFC 239 thereafter. He lost another KO fight after switching to light heavyweight, which did not work out well for him.

Mike Bohn and Rockhold recently spoke about his UFC comeback. The former UFC champion revealed extremely private details about his life. This included having an abortion and going through a difficult breakup while away from the octagon.

The 37-year-old continued by saying that he was inspired to take up fighting again by the two sad events.

“I know it’s not a popular subject right now, but I did have an abortion and I did have a big break-up… It hurt, you know. It definitely was a big turning point in realizing where my life was and where I’m going.”

“Having a kid on the way and prepping for that and carrying the weight of a kid… it weighs on you… Having to make that decision, a lot of things just weren’t right. There wasn’t a lot of truth on either side and it just f**ked me up.”

“And it made me f**king transition and it really changed my life for the better. ever since then, I really have been sober.”

Rockhold’s comeback is now set to take place at UFC 278 against Paulo Costa. Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman for the welterweight championship will be the main event of the card.

Since then, Rockhold has been out of the picture. However, it seems like the 37-year-old will make his octagon debut at UFC 278 for what may be his last attempt to win a UFC championship.
